Bayahíbe is a fishing village in the Dominican Republic, La Altagracia province, located south of San Rafael de Yuma on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. Founded in 1874 by Juan Brito and his family, of Puerto Rican nationality.

Bayahíbe is an indigenous word. Its meaning is not known for sure, but with the references we have, we can think that it was linked to water.


The island is a popular destination for tourists visiting the Dominican Republic, with boats traveling daily to Catalina from La Romana to visit the beach, snorkel, and see the coral just offshore. In addition to its water activities, Catalina Island offers a small town where visitors can explore the local culture and try delicious Dominican food. The town has a handicraft market, where tourists can buy handmade souvenirs and souvenirs, as well as restaurants offering local cuisine and fresh seafood.

 

This beautiful island has several coral reefs and coastal lagoons, a great diversity of birds and reptile species, it also has interesting archaeological sites and caves that were used by the first inhabitants of the island, as well as a high percentage of endemic species and floral richness.
